Our Journey back to Homesteading

“Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others."
-- 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Our best pictures of Mason so far!

Since the only people that really visit our blog are friends and family. Everyone should know we are expecting of course. We are expecting a bright eyed Baby Boy to make his appearance some time around mid April.

His name is Mason James Diehl. Naturally, the plans to have a family are some of the primary reasons that most people believe we jumped off the deep end into “Abnormality”. Living so far in the country, building a homestead, self-sufficiency, even the fact that we are planning a home birth and studying the Bradley Method which promotes having me, the father, actually deliver the baby if all goes as planned.

Granted some of this has made me think maybe I have gone off the deep end also. But for my family, I’ll jump off twice.

When I was growing up my early childhood memories are of living with my Mom, Grandpa, and Grandma. We were in a small town, but a nice plot of land so had a large garden, a workshop, etc. And then my Dad’s side, when I visited him, was Diehl’s Strawberry Farm. One of the largest pick your own strawberry farms in the country (maybe, I don’t know).

Even later in my life, my Mom remarried and we moved even farther out into the country. It was an even smaller town and we lived outside of it on a crop farm. So we were often surrounded by soybeans or corn.

I didn’t get much interaction with livestock of any kind. But in general good memories that I miss. I want Mason to have those same memories. We will round it out even better if I can. More of a homestead than a farm with mostly one crop. We will have Goats, Chickens, a Garden, Aquaponics which include fish. Maybe we can even add some ducks, or who knows.

Anyway below you will find a gallery of images from our latest UltraSound. We have several 4D shots, however the position of the Placenta prevented a very good picture. I found the best. Click any to see larger versions.
