Our Journey back to Homesteading

“Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others."
-- 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Chicks arrive

The chickens finally arrive!

So we ordered 22 Hens, 2 Roosters, for a total of 24 Birds. In addition, they sent us one extra of what we ordered in case one didn’t make it, and they also sent us one free “rare bird”. We aren’t entirely sure what the rare bird is just yet. I’m guessing it is a Silver Speckled Hamburg, however that is hard to tell until it grows up.

In the meantime we ended up with 26 Chicks. Take a look at the pictures below.

Here they are in their holding cell for the first 4 weeks. It’s just a goat feeder with a kind of mesh door on top.

The dog seems to be very curious about the chicks, and probably not in a good way.

Here’s a close up of them learning to drink. They come so small.
